Before the start of the city-wide celebration dedicated to March 3rd—Bulgaria’s National Holiday—the flag of the country’s first student guard detachment was consecrated at the “St. George the Victorious” church. Arranged in a formation, the young guards from the “Hristo Botev” Language High School welcomed the flag group into the church to the sound of drummers. Father Petar blessed the flag and wished the boys to uphold the ideals of the national revival leaders and all Bulgarians who dedicated their lives to the freedom and independence of the homeland. The ceremony was attended by the mayor of the municipality of Kardzhali, Eng. Hasan Azis, and the principal of the high school, Yordanka Chavdarova. The flag unveiling took place exactly on the first anniversary of the unit’s formation. Over the past months, the guards from Kardzhali participated in numerous celebrations and events in Kardzhali, Kalofer, Zlatograd, and Sofia.
