The establishment of the first school in Svoge is associated with the “St. Petka Paraskeva” church, where the newly created cell school was housed in its annexes. After the Liberation, it became secular, offering almost all general education subjects. In the 1914/1915 school year, the first and second grades of an incomplete secondary school were opened in Svoge, which produced its first graduating class in 1916. In the 1923/1924 school year, a new building was constructed, and an incomplete mixed high school was established, initially named “Father Paisiy” until 1945 when it was renamed “Dicho Petrov.” From the beginning of the 1964/1965 school year, it was divided into the “Dicho Petrov” Polytechnic High School and the “Mitko Palaouzov” Primary School.
At the beginning of the 1967/1968 school year, the new school building of “Mitko Palauzov” Primary School was inaugurated. This was followed by years in which the administration and staff worked diligently to establish a modern and contemporary material base for the school and to strengthen its high reputation.
On March 11, 1991, the pedagogical council decided to change the name of the school. It is now named after Ivan Vazov. The patron holiday is celebrated on November 24th, a date associated with the first publication of the novel “Under the Yoke.”
In 2008, by decision of the Ministry of Education and Science, a merger took place between “Ivan Vazov” Primary School and “Otets Paisiy” High School, resulting in the current “Ivan Vazov” Secondary School.
During the current academic year, 588 children and students are being educated at “Ivan Vazov” Secondary School in Svoge, distributed across 27 classes and 1 preparatory group.
The school offers admission after completing 7th grade into a class with a “Foreign Languages” profile, with intensive English language study. This academic year is also the last for the graduates studying in another class with a “Technological-IT” profile.
The largest investment for the school at the end of the 2019/2020 school year and the beginning of the 2020/2021 school year is the new sports hall.
