With a unique ceremony, the flag of the VII Guard Unit at Vicho Grancharov Secondary School in Gorna Oryahovitsa was consecrated.The host of the ceremony for the induction of the young guards was the “Nikola Petrov” Sports Hall.
The initiative to create the guard unit, which includes 21 students from “Vicho Grancharov” Secondary School, was led by Dr. Denislava Angelova and is supported by the National Guard Unit.
The ceremony for affirming the squad and consecrating its flag followed all the traditions of the army and the Church.The flag was blessed by Metropolitan Grigoriy of Veliko Tarnovo.
The ritual of driving six nails into its handle involved Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Krasimir Karakachanov, the head of the National Guard Unit Colonel Kyncho Ivanov, the president’s defense advisor Iliya Milushev, Mayor Engineer Dobromir Dobrev, and the school’s principal Neli Atanasova.
The minister was the first to wave the consecrated flag and handed it to the standard-bearers of the National Guard Unit. They, in turn, passed it to the flag bearer of the school contingent, who with…and vowed to keep it clean and untainted.
The young guards were welcomed by the numerous guests, and the ceremony was given a special touch by the participation of real guards bringing in the flags of Bulgaria and the European Union, as well as the representative orchestra.and soloists from the Bulgarian Army Ensemble.
Wear the guards’ uniform with honor and pride. I am glad we are here, in a city linked to Bulgarian history and the struggles for liberation. Be worthy of this flag and these uniforms, Deputy Prime Minister Krasimir Karakachanov addressed the children. He presented commemorative awards to participants in the ceremony and to reserve officers from the former Gorna Oryahovitsa garrison.
On behalf of SU “Vicho Gruncharov,” the director Neli Atanasova expressed her respect and gratitude to everyone who became involved.with the idea of including plaques and paintings by young artists from the school.
The Presidential advisor, Iliya Milushev, read a greeting on behalf of President Rumen Radev. The children were also congratulated by the head of the guards, Col. Kyncho Ivanov, who gave a special gift—a painting of a guards’ uniform and a plaque to the director. Mayor Eng. Dobromir Dobrev wished them to be proud of their history.
Dr. Denislava Angelova, the initiator of the Student Guard Movement, also addressed the children, encouraging them to be proud Bulgarians. She took the opportunity to remind them of the contributions of former Guards Commander Brigadier General Ilko Yordanov, a native of Gorna Oryahovitsa, who also participated in the ceremony.
Among the guests at the ceremony were Member of Parliament Assoc. Prof. Dr. Milen Mihov, the head of the Vasil Levski National Military University Brigadier General Plamen Bogdanov, Deputy Director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior Hristo Hristov, mayors of neighboring municipalities, deputy mayors of the Municipality of Gorna Oryahovitsa, officers, parents, and friends of the young guards.
