Reservists, retired military personnel, and Bulgarian citizens were awarded by orders of the Minister of Defense, Krasimir Karakachanov, and the Chief of Defense, General Andrey Botsev, for their contributions to military-patriotic education, strengthening the security and defense of the country, and conducting military-patriotic activities. This took place at the traditional pre-Christmas meeting of the Ministry of Defense leadership with members of military-patriotic unions, associations, and organizations, held at the Central Military Club in Sofia. The awards were presented by Deputy Minister of Defense Atanas Zapryanov and Deputy Chief of Defense Vice Admiral Emil Eftimov. Among the awardees is the Association “Youth Guard Units.” Dr. Denislava Angelova, the initiator for the creation of student guard units and orchestras across the country, received the “For Faithful Service Under the Flags – Ladies’ Cross” II degree. Jordanka Chavdarova, whose idea led to the formation of the first student guard unit “Botev Descendants” at EG “Hristo Botev” – Kardzhali, was awarded a certificate. The Association views the awards not as personal accolades, but as recognition for everyone who worked hard to implement this initiative in 7 units and 2 orchestras in 2018 and 2019. Youth formations already exist in Kardzhali, Pleven, Smolyan, Burgas, Batak, Aytos, and Gorna Oryahovitsa. The activities of the association continue in a spirit of patriotism and national pride—two new units, a camp, and a parade are forthcoming.
