The school in Sredets received the flag of the guard unit.

The 11th Student Guard Squad of “St. Cyril and Methodius” Secondary School in the town of Sredets received its flag. It was presented during a ceremonial event featuring the representative squad of the National Guard Unit. The ceremony took place at “Bulgaria” Square on Sredets’ holiday today. In 2020, the town marks 60 years since it was declared a city.
The Brass Band and a unit from the National Guard, along with the guard unit from “St. Cyril and Methodius” Secondary School, were assembled in the square. This is the third educational institution in the Burgas region to have its own guard unit and receive the guard flag.
The solemn ceremony was attended by Ivo Antonov, Director of the “Social Policy and Military-Patriotic Education Policies” Directorate at the Ministry of Defense, Deputy Regional Governor of Burgas Region Vladimir Krumov, Violeta Ilieva, Head of the Regional Directorate of Education in Burgas, Ivan Zhabov, Mayor of Sredets Municipality, Colonel Petar Kindelov, Deputy Commander of the Guard Regiment in the National Guard Unit, Denislava Angelova, President of the “Touch the Rainbow” Association, and others.
The ceremony began with a ritual for the consecration of the guard flag, performed by Metropolitan Seraphim of Nevrokop. Agathopolis Bishop Ierohey – abbot of the Pomorie Monastery “St. George,” archpriest Father Sevastian, and representatives of the clergy from Sredets also took part.
“Today is a festive day for Sredets. We are marking 60 years since it was declared a town. It is an honor and privilege for us to welcome the National Guard unit. This flag will be one of the symbols of Sredets and will participate in all patriotic events organized by the Municipality,” said the Mayor of Sredets Municipality, Ivan Zhabov, in his address. He wished the students of the guard squad to wear their uniforms with pride. The young guards were also greeted by the principal of “St. Cyril and Methodius” Secondary School, Vladislava Tsaneva.
The Mayor of the Municipality presented honorary plaques on the occasion of the anniversary to Ivo Antonov, Denislava Angelova, Vladimir Krumov, Violeta Ilieva, and Colonel Kindelov.
The ceremony concluded with the iconic Bulgarian song by Emil Dimitrov – “My Country!”.
